To use a Demo version of NewGenLib, please
follow the steps given below.
- Point your browser to
http://www.kiikm.org/newgenlibclient.zip
- Click Save in the dialogue that appears and save
it to an appropriate folder on your system. We recommend the Desktop folder
- After the zip file is fully downloaded (size: approx
10MB), unzip the contents of the file to the C:\ drive on your system
- NewGenLib is a Java-based application. In order to use
the Demo version, you will need to download the J2SE Run Time edition (JRE).
This download is free of charge, Go to the site
www.java.com and enter JRE in the Search box and click Go. You will see
the download page for JRE. Click the Download Now button and follow
instructions to download and install the JRE (version 1.4.2_03 and above).
- A folder called
C:\newgenlibclient will have been created in your system.
- Move to the folder
c:\newgenlibclient
- A file called Launch.jnlp will be seen in the folder.
Double click launch.jnlp
- You will soon see a brief message 'Java Loading'. Click
this message to make it disappear.
- You will see the NewGenLib dialog showing two boxes:
one for IP address and another for Port.
- Enter 210.214.77.155 in the IP address box. This
is the IP address of the NewGenLib server.
- The default port number is already there and it should
be 8080
- Click OK in the dialogue
- Now you will see the Login screen of NewGenLib. Enter
1 for user Id and abc for password and click the OK button
- Soon you will see the Applet interface, i.e., the
interface that librarians will use. You can now actually enter records, do
circulation, experiment with the acquisitions module and so on.
- Note: The data that you enter goes into a sample
database and is not stored permanently since this is only a demo application.
The database on our server will be cleared periodically.
- To see the online public access catalogue (OPAC), open
the Internet Explorer or other browser and enter
http://210.214.77.155:8080/newgenlibctxt/Opac2_0.jsp and press the
Enter key. You will see the online catalogue in your browser. You may
experiment with the search functionality of the OPAC.
