Text Box: Kesavan institute of Information and knowledge management

The Institute has the worked on the following (completed and ongoing) projects:

· Reworking the functionality, look and feel of the AGRIS Search Engine, version 1.3. This project was outsourced by the Library and Documentation Services Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Rome to the Institute during 2006-1007. The work has since been completed and the results of this may be seen at http://www.fao.org/agris.

· The Institute, as a follow-up to the outsourced work on redesigning the AGRIS search engine 1.3 now has a project to redesign the version 1.5 of the search engine. This version will have semantics-enabled search and multilingual search functionality using the AGROVOC thesaurus.

· A new software product called kPortal is under development by the Institute. This is a generic application comprising an Administration Module and several specialized applications. The software will allow libraries to configure various types of resources that are useful to the users of their library and/or a network of such libraries. Special applications, e.g., to allow users to search for full text of papers. An important component of the application will be a database of experts that agree to share their knowledge and expertise with those who need it, e.g., students, farmers, researchers, etc.  A full time Knowledge Administrator is envisage who actively promotes the application and ensures that new resources/applications are built to benefit users across the board.
