Editing of MARC-21 records - MARC-21 template
An imported record can be edited using the MARC-21
template. This is shown in the figure
below. The record seen in the figure is for a record downloaded from OCLC.

Data in MARC tags that the cataloguer considers necessary
(but not found in the imported
record) may be added by clicking the ‘Add Field’ button. This opens a dialog
which shows
all the MARC tags available, their subfields and indicators. Similarly, data in
a subfield of
an existing field may be added by clicking the ‘Add Subfield’ button.
Data in the fixed fields in the imported record may be seen
by clicking the ‘Fixed fields’
tab. These can then be edited if desired.
NewGenLib supports the data entry/import of any of
the material types described
in the MARC format. The screenshots below, show first a dialog to indicate that
the
record being imported is for a projected medium (a video cassette). The second
creenshot is the record in the MARC-21 template.

The above figure shows that the ‘Union
Catalogue?’ checkbox is selected.
This indicates that once the record is edited and saved, it will be added to
the union catalogue of the library network. However, the library which is
cataloguing an item may decide that it does not want to add the record to
the union catalogue by unselecting the ‘Union Catalogue?’ checkbox. Such
records will be seen only when that library’s catalogue is searched
